FoodStirs reviews

I have two Foodstir reviews today. We did two of our boxes almost back to back to get caught up. So every two months we get a FoodStirs box. Foodstirs is a baking subscription box and if you are on the plan, they send you a box every other month. February was a Valentines theme box while April was an Earth day theme. They include everything you need for the dry ingredients. They also include the decorations. I just needed to provide the eggs, butter, and yogurt.

February Box

For February we had chocolate brownies with icing in the center. We did melted chocolate topping and pink icing. The cupcake holders were super cute and my son really liked them. As you can see from our icing, it wasn’t the best. The reason: I didn’t let the brownies cool before I did the icing because we were running out of time. The brownies were very yummy and my son loved them. He really liked eating the mix as his face was covered in chocolate. Pretty easy to make. We kept the cupcake holders so we can reuse them.

April Box

April was Earth cake pops. It was an Apple spice cake. As you can see, our decorating sucked but I now know how to make cake pops. My son didn’t really like these and I am not a fan of apple spice cake in general. My husband is not really a sweets fan so this one went to waste. Of the two recipes I reviewed today, this one was harder to make. It was nice that the cake pop sticks are reusable so we will try again.

December Foodstirs Review

We did this box about a week ago. We got it in December but were already baking for the holidays and then in January I kept forgetting to get Greek yogurt so we did this during the Super Bowl.  So every two months we get a FoodStirs box. Foodstirs is a baking subscription box and if you are on the plan, they send you a box every other month. December was a winter theme box. They include everything you need for the dry ingredients. They also include the decorations. I just needed to provide the eggs, butter, and yogurt.

This month it was snowman sugar cookies. It was really easy to make and my son loves helping. He helped stirred the cookie mix and the icing mix. He might have eaten some cookie dough that he “accidentally” dropped out the bowl. This winter he became obsessed with snowmen so it was perfect timing.

How the box looked with you opened it up. The box had the mixes, a metal snowmen cookie cutter, dye for his scarf, chocolate chips for the eyes, sprinkles for the nose and mouth and little white ball sprinkles to make the “snow.”

Final messy product. They might look like a mess but they tasted good and my son loved them! Want to give it a try? Go here.

October 2018 FoodStirs Review

We did this box a few weeks ago but just go around the posting about it. So every two months we get a FoodStirs box. Foodstirs is a baking subscription box and if you are on the plan, they send you a box every other month. October was a Halloween theme box. They include everything you need for the dry ingredients. They also include the decorations. I just needed to provide the eggs, butter, and yogurt.

This month it was monster chocolate chip cookie sandwiches. It was really easy to make and my son loves helping. He helped stirred the cookie mix and the icing mix. He loved the cookies and thought they were a lot of fun. It helps that Halloween is his favorite holiday.

Foodstirs August 2018 Review

It’s been a month. Let’s just get started on a Foodstirs review. We actually did this one a few weeks ago but yeah. So every two months we get a FoodStirs box. Foodstirs is a baking subscription box and if you are on the plan, they send you a box every other month. August was a summer theme box. They include everything you need for the dry ingredients. They also include the decorations. I just needed to provide the eggs, butter, and water.

This month was a boat themed caramel brownies. Please excuse the messy table, we had all of our brownies ingredients out. This one was pretty easy and I liked baking the brownies in cupcake cups instead of a brownie pan, that way your kid gets their own already portioned brownie. Plus you put a piece of caramel candy in the middle. This one needed a lot of parent help especially if your kid is really young. I had to poke holes for the flag and tape the bowl. My son really had fun though and couldn’t wait to show his dad what we made.IMG_20180923_190039201 (2)

Oreo Pie

Next week I will be going back to work and my son will be back at school. Because of this, I have been trying to jam pack our last bit of time together. Yesterday we decided to make homemade Oreo pie with a recipe I found. Since I run with friends on Thursday nights, I brought it to them too. This pie was a hit and it was pretty simple to make. The marshmallows goes really well with the Oreo crust. It is nice and refreshing on a hot day and not too heavy. It also does not have a real sugary taste.

Oreo Pie

Rating: 5/5

Ease: 4/5. My pie crust didn’t turn out perfect as I didn’t smash it enough. It still tasted good though.

Changes: I didn’t use chocolate shavings and instead used cookies and cream sprinkles I found at the store. I also didn’t use a double boiler pan as I don’t have one and just used a regular pot to melt the marshmallows.

Recipe: You can find it here

Picture: As you can see, we enjoyed it a lot.

Foodstirs June 2018 Review

I actually made my Foodstirs box the month I got it, well sort of. I got this box at the end of June, almost July and it is 4th of July themed so I will pretend it is a July box. I believe this is the first time ever. With school out, I have a lot more time to do things like bake with my son.

We baked last week after our little vacay. My son loves to help me bake so this is perfect for him. So every two months we get a FoodStirs box. Foodstirs is a baking subscription box and if you are on the plan, they send you a box every other month. June was 4th of July themed. They include everything you need for the dry ingredients. They also include the decorations. I just needed to provide the eggs, butter, yogurt and milk. IMG_20180712_134830947

So this one was a Firecracker Treat Pop using cake mix. My son liked mixing the dry ingredients but I think he liked mixing the icing more to see the color changes especially with the pink and orange to make red.

IMG_20180712_151523958

Here is our finished product. Please excuse the one not in its container. My son wanted to eat one right away and then put it back like this because really he just wanted the icing. It was pretty simple to do and to set it up. The actual baking time is what takes the longest.

Foodstirs does not pay me for my reviews, I pay them. If you want to try it go here.

Homemade Blueberry Crumb Cake

Last week I found a recipe to use some of our blueberries that we picked. I had frozen the blueberries so that we could use them for smoothies and other things. After looking through multiple blueberry recipes, I found this one for Blueberry Crumb Cake.

Blueberry Crumb Cake

Ease: 4/5. It was probably easier but I had a three-year old helping me.

Rating: 5/5. This rating it coming from me, my son, my husband and two friends who ate it after a run.

Changes: None but didn’t add anything like pecans neither. One thing though, the topping is supposed to be like crumbs. Mine was way too buttery so it stuck together. Maybe less butter? It still tasted fine though.

Recipe: You can find it here.

April 2018 FoodStirs review…in June.

Now that school is out, I have time to play catch-up. Sort of. I am playing catch-up with all parts of my life right now so it does get tricky.

Last week my son and I baked. I love to get him in the kitchen and helping and he likes to bake because he has a little sweet tooth. So every two months we get a FoodStirs box. Foodstirs is a baking subscription box and if you are on the plan, they send you a box every other month. April was Earth Day themed Snickerdoodle cookies. They include everything you need for the dry ingredients. They also include the decorations. I just needed to provide the eggs, butter, yogurt and oil. They also sent us some coupons too. IMG_20180607_145928485

Here is our finished product. It was really simple to follow and my son could help stir (batter did get out of the bowl). We didn’t have enough batter to fill up all 6 flower pots to the correct amount but that just means people who do not want a full cookie can have a half cookie. My son really loved the gummy worms that came with the box.

Foodstirs February 2018 review

Only took us a month and a half to bake our February box. I always have the best intentions but have to remember to get eggs. Yes, we normally do not have eggs in our house since my husband is sort of allergic to them if they are not cooked in food.

So Foodstirs is a baking subscription box and if you are on the plan, they send you a book every other month. February was Heart-Shaped Brownies. They include everything you need for the dry ingredients. They also include the decorations and the mold for the brownies. I just needed to provide the eggs, water and oil. They also sent us a free sample of their cake in a mug.

Everything is included.

My son always has a lot of fun baking with me. He loves stirring and this time he helped get the mix into the molds.

IMG_20180401_174846714

The instructions are really simple to follow.

Making icing

In the end, our brownies turned out delicious. I had to throw out 1 because it did not bake all the way through because my son put too much mix in it. The rest though were delicious. The mold had six hearts but we were able to get 10ish brownies out of the mix. The decorating is not that pretty but who cares when it tastes so good. This one has been the favorite in our house so far.

Foodstirs December review

Yes, it says December. My son and I just baked this yesterday. We are a little behind in life and finally got around to it. He doesn’t know any better.

So Foodstirs is a baking subscription box and if you are on the plan, they send you a book every other month. December was Gingerbread People. They include everything you need for dry ingredients. They also include the piping bag, cookie cutters and things to decorate for. I just needed to provide the egg, butter, yogurt, mixing bowls, cookie sheet.

IMG_20180218_094536708

Everything included in the box

They have easy instructions to follow which I did correctly, unlike the disaster of the October box. My son really loves helping and was excited that he got to stir, use the cookie cutters and decorate. We didn’t use a lot of the gummy bears and jelly beans on the cookies because most ended in my sons mouth instead.

IMG_20180218_095956054

They didn’t turn out pretty but my son had a lot of fun and that is all that matters.

IMG_20180218_114906359

I really recommend this box. It is great bonding and then you have something good to eat. My husband had been out-of-town and he got a cookie right when he got home, and said they are really good. That is from someone who is not a huge sweets fan.
