Barbella Box July 2018 Review

The beginning of July was a crazy month as I was out-of-town, which means I forgot to skip my Barbella box. I have a planner on my desk but I go July-June (school calendar) and hadn’t put my reminder to look at the Barbella spoilers on Instagram. So I got one this month. Barbella Box is $49.99 a month but you can skip if you want. You only have a few days into the month to skip though.

This box was curated by Katrin Davidsdottir who has won the Crossfit Games in the past.

  1. Reebox Crossfit Front Rack Sports Bra ($45)

I am currently wearing this sports bra. It is really comfy and seems pretty supportive as I did a jump test. I am going to workout later today which is why I am wearing it. It is pretty lowcut though which doesn’t bother me but I know it bothers other people. How I will miss the summer and have to wear real clothes.

2. Zevia Sparkling Water ($1.99)

Just a sparkling water which I can drink but not my favorite. I haven’t tried this one.

3. Ascent Protein Single Serve ($3)

I normally do not take any kind of powders or special fuels but interested in trying protein since I am a vegetarian.

4. Makeup By Tracy Lip Glaze in Poster Girl ($24)

This lip glaze goes on very smooth. It is a pinkish-brown color which looked nice on.

5. Sparkly Soul Headband ($15)

I always wear headbands when I workout. I normally do cheap Goodie ones from Target and my more expensive ones for races (I normally wear Sweaty Bands.) This one is sparkly and silver, all things I love so I was excited to see this.

6. Be the Best Me Rubber bracelet

Pretty good value for everything you get. The bra is my favorite item as you can never have too many but I was also really happy to see the headband too. Interested in trying? You can go here.

Foodstirs June 2018 Review

I actually made my Foodstirs box the month I got it, well sort of. I got this box at the end of June, almost July and it is 4th of July themed so I will pretend it is a July box. I believe this is the first time ever. With school out, I have a lot more time to do things like bake with my son.

We baked last week after our little vacay. My son loves to help me bake so this is perfect for him. So every two months we get a FoodStirs box. Foodstirs is a baking subscription box and if you are on the plan, they send you a box every other month. June was 4th of July themed. They include everything you need for the dry ingredients. They also include the decorations. I just needed to provide the eggs, butter, yogurt and milk. IMG_20180712_134830947

So this one was a Firecracker Treat Pop using cake mix. My son liked mixing the dry ingredients but I think he liked mixing the icing more to see the color changes especially with the pink and orange to make red.

Here is our finished product. Please excuse the one not in its container. My son wanted to eat one right away and then put it back like this because really he just wanted the icing. It was pretty simple to do and to set it up. The actual baking time is what takes the longest.

Foodstirs does not pay me for my reviews, I pay them. If you want to try it go here.

July 2018 Stitch Fix Review

Last week I got my Stitch Fix. I didn’t have time to try them on until the day they were due. I always ask my husband for his opinions and then I text the pictures to two of my very honest friends for their opinions too.

If you are new to Stitch Fix, this is how it works:

1. Fill out your Style Profile. This gives detail on your style, sizes, budget and anything else like a link to your pinterest board.

2. Once you have “ordered” your box, they will send you 5 items from a personal stylists.  It is a $20 styling fee which is applied as a credit toward anything you keep. I actually have a Style Pass(I have no idea how I got it) which means I pay $49 for the whole year instead and I get a one-time $49 credit.

3. Try everything on. They send you Style Cards with recommendations on how to wear your outfit.  You have three days to decide what you do and do not want.

4. Buy what you like and return the rest. If you keep all 5 items, you get 25% off your entire purchase.  Don’t like something, they send you a pre-paid mailing bag to drop in the mailbox.  It is free shipping.

Here is what I got:

My letter from my stylists

Market & Spruce Elody Embroidered Detail Dress ($68)

This dress was cute and has small cutouts on the top. One of my friends did not like the dress because she thought it felt too 95-97 with the daisy fad. I didn’t like how high the armpit holes were. I couldn’t see myself being comfortable wearing this all day so back it went.

Alice Blue Simona Henley Blouse ($36) and Kut From the Kloth Kristi Frayed Boyfriend Jeans ($88)

I love Kut from the Kloth jeans so I knew this pair would be a winner. I needed a new paid of capri’s for when school starts back up. These fit so well and makes me look slimmer. The blouse was cute but had no stretch to it which I like my shirts to have some stretch to them. So the blouse went back.

Your Story Bowman Lace Detail Top ($44) and same jeans

One of my friends really liked this top, my husband thought it was okay and I though my meh so it went back.

Threads 4 Thought Ade Colorblock Legging ($74) and top from above

Now this outfit is a winner! Just kidding, I just didn’t feel like finding a top. These leggings were so soft and comfy. However, they are see-through and not squat proof. If I am going to pay $74 for leggings, they better not show anything!!

Fort Worth Vacation

Last week my family did a mini-vacay in Fort Worth. I was already there for my volunteer job so my husband and son got in the car and drove on up. We stayed at the Texan Gaylord. It is huge! For this summer, they have Smurf stuff everywhere and special Smurf classes, escape room, parade, etc. They also have a water park on their property with a shuttle to take you back to the hotel. We really liked staying there and have plans to come back sometime in the future.

Our room

I was there first so I checked in, like 3 hours early. Luckily for me, they had a King-sized room ready. This room was huge. It was a corner room so we had two full walls of windows. There was plenty of room for my son to play with his Lego’s we bought. The room also had a mini-fridge so we could buy milk. When my family got there, they were starving so we ate at the hotel at their Tex-Mex restaurant which sits on the restaurants Riverwalk (it is supposed to look like San Antonio). The drinks and food were good but pricey but this is also hotel prices. We then got changed and went to the pool. The pool was so crowded and there was a DJ playing. There were no chairs left but a family was leaving and told us to take theirs. We played in the water for over an hour and got ready to go out.

We decided to go see the Fort Worth Stockyards. Since neither of us have ever been, we didn’t know what to expect. My son did not enjoy them. He thought there would be animals that he could see and we only saw a couple. My husband loves country music so we did go to Billy Bob’s for some food and to listen. We then headed back to the hotel and put on Netflix which you can do straight from the remote.

Since we are all sharing a King-size bed(our toddler likes to sleep with us anyway), we all just cuddled up and slept in which is really nice. I decided to get up and go workout at Grapevine Crossfit. When I got back, I showered real quick and we went to Legoland. I had bought tickets for 10 am months ago and recommend buying in advance. When we got there at 10, people who did not have tickets couldn’t get any until 2. When we left Legoland, it was 3:30 with the last entry being 5.

My son loves building and loves Legos so this was perfect for him. He built a lot, did a ride, watched a movie and built some more. When he was ready for lunch, we went through the gift shop and bought him a set.

For lunch we did Rainforest Cafe. Even though it is touristy, in a bunch of cities and overpriced, we knew our son would love it and he did. After lunch we did the Sealife aquarium. I had bought the combo tickets for that and Legoland. The aquarium was cute and my son enjoyed looking at the fishes. He really liked this turtle activity where you took care of a turtle and the tube with the sharks swimming over you.

We also went to Grapevine Brewery Co. for some drinks and Tolberts for some Chili. They win a lot of awards and my husband has known about them for a while.

I had signed us up to run at Rahr and Son’s Red White and Brew Fun Run. It was not a race, just a fun run. We stayed there for a bit and headed back to the hotel. My husband originally wanted to leave on Saturday but we decided to stay an extra day since we were having such a great time. We went to Jake’s Burgers for lunch which I recommend. When we got back, they had a balloon animal artist so my son got a balloon animal.

That night we went to the Paradise Springs Waterpark which is a part of your stay. We went close to closing time. The reason: crowds and not as sunny. We wanted to go when maybe people would start going to dinner. We stayed until they closed which was almost two hours and probably the perfect amount of time with our toddler. My son loved the lazy river, the slides* and they had these swings in the water.

*You have to go feet first for safety and half way down, my son turned his little body to go head first. He got in trouble with the lifeguard.

On Sunday we drove home. It was a really nice vacation and I really enjoyed it. We will definitely have to go back to Ft. Worth another time.

June Updates

So June went by way too fast. Summer really needs to slow down. We did a lot of fun stuff this month.

My family, during Father’s Day weekend, always runs the No Label 1st Street 5K.  We have run it every year since the race began. We love it. We never run in that area so it is once a year and it ends at a brewery, No Label, which has a playground. We also normally have friends who run it too. It was a lot of fun.

There is a free race series called Flash Mob which was on Thursday nights. This race series was cancelled a few years ago but they brought it back this year. They do it for 4 Thursdays in a row in June. It is normally a cross county type run so grass, dirt, trails which is great since I never get to run that anymore. I was really happy to see this race series back again.

I also got to go to Body Pump a couple of times in June. Body Pump is an hour weight lifting class which I enjoy. I normally do not do it during the school year because of crossfit/running but they have a Friday morning class I can fit in.

Toddler Activities

In June, my son only went to school on Wednesdays and Fridays. We have been going to a lot of storytimes and a couple of playdates. One of the storytimes we go to is right by my husbands work so we sometimes go eat lunch with him. One Monday I had signed him up for a special program at the zoo too. We learned about Komodo Dragons and pet lizards. He has also been progressing at swim class which is so much fun to see. He has been having a great summer.

I have done 2 out of my 3 teacher trainings for the summer. We also went to Kentucky Lakes from yesterdays post. For Fathers Day we went to a minor league baseball game. Even though we have a major league team and we will go to a game this year, we like going to the minor league games for Father’s Day because it is smaller. We sit on the grass and watch the whole game. The stadium also has a lot for kids to do like splash pad, playground, blow-up toy things.

This summer needs to slow down.

Kentucky Lakes

In June, my whole family met at Kentucky Lakes for a long weekend. For most of my family, it was only a few hours drive. For me, we flew into Nashville and rented a car. From Nashville to our rental home, it was two hours.

We got there on a Friday and left on Monday. Some of my family bought boats and wave runners with them. Other people bought water floats and noodles. It was a lot of fun. We rented two houses and there was a firepit between the houses. We also shared a dock to put everything. We were on a quiet cove so you could swim in the lake from our dock.

Quiet Cove

Some things we did:

Friday- Some of us met at Paducah Brewing Co. The food was good and so was the pizza. We then went to stores and met back at the houses. That night, my whole family went out to eat at Moors Head Resort at their restaurant Ralphs.

Saturday- We played in the water all day. My husband and I got out to go do a crossfit workout. Otherwise it was boating and swimming.

Sunday- More water time. My husband borrowed the owners kayak and went kayaking. My little family also went to a brewpub called The Dam.

Monday- One last boat ride. Then time to go home.

We had to drive back to Nashville and had awhile since our flight was delayed. We went to a Trails of Tears museum. We then went and explored Nashville like at Jackalope Brewery.

We loved Kentucky Lakes and really enjoyed the rental we stayed at. This is a place I would definitely go visit again.
