Avenue A Fall 2017 Review

I found out about Avenue A a couple of months ago and was on the fence about ordering it because it is a lot of money. Then I decided to bite the bullet but they were sold out so I had to wait until this season to get one.

Why I finally decided? So I workout almost daily. In the summer it is everyday but during the school year it is 6 days a week. My bad habit though? I never buy shoes.  I only buy shoes when my shoe is basically falling apart. Is that bad? Yes. While I do have shoes just for crossfit, my everyday shoe for walking is just old marathon shoes which have no padding or traction left.

So what is Avenue A? It is a box for women from Adidas. They have a box 4 times a year and it costs $150 but you get to keep everything.  You fill out a size/fit profile. You can choose to skip a box if you do not like the spoiler.

So what did I get:IMG_20170818_184502996

Performer Strappy Tank($28), Halter Bra($45), and Supernova 7/8 Tight($75)

IMG_20170818_185145692

Excuse my dresser again, I promise I do close it. I was just in the middle of grabbing some shirts.

The items: the tank is very loose but it is suppose to be. If you are bigger chested, you will be showing a lot of bra. If you are smaller chested, you will show some but not like I am. The shirt does become fitted more around the hips and is very light weight. I thought about requesting a smaller side but then worry it will be too snug around my stomach and hips. I’m going to try it out on a run because I think it might work for that.

The bra, well it is not my style because I don’t like how high the neck is.  I also never workout in just a sports bra so I always have a shirt on. I could see this work if you like being shirtless while working out.

The running tights are heavy! Or I should say for me.  I only have crops and I only wear them a handful of times a year(it takes a lot for me to cover up). These would be good if it is in the low 30s and colder. Again, this is for me.  I wear shorts until it is in the low 40s/high 30s, then I switch to crops. I get hot really fast. I did not do a squat test, so I am not sure on their sheerness, so I do not know if these would work for other things besides running.  Most of the time, running tights are only for running and not meant for activities where you bend. I do know they show every bump, so VPL is shown.

From the back.

Adidas Adizero Tempo 9 ($120)

IMG_20170818_190136059

These are pretty common running shoes and I use to run in something similar so I will be wearing these for running and not just around. I personally like the color as I do not have any shoes around that color. I personally like color and I always stay away from whites and blacks.

Sunglasses ($99)

IMG_20170818_190148510

I love the color I got. Different people received different colors but mine match the shoes and tank. These are a nice pair of sunglasses. A lot nicer than everything else I own because I just wear glasses I got for free at different booths.

Final thoughts: all the items add up to be $367. I think that is a great deal for $150.

Kidbox Back to School 2017 Review

This is my sons fourth Kidbox. I feel like he is good on clothes but he is also going through a phase where he only wants to wear the same clothes all the time.  He hates wearing new clothes. I think he just needed more pants for when winter comes here in like 6 months. Most of his will be pretty short from the previous winter.

Here is how it works:

Here is how it works:

  1. Go to the website and fill out a style survey. They ask for things such as colors to avoid, what do you need more of, what will they not wear, their style.
  2. They only ship out 5 times a year but you can skip a season if you would like.
  3. Review the box. You have 7 days before you are billed. If you keep everything, it is $98. If you keep only a few pieces, they offer it at a discount.
  4. Ship back what you do not want.
  5. If you kept it all, pick a charity you want Kidbox to donate clothes to.

    Style Card

As you can see in the above card, the number on the right is the discounted number. We normally just keep the whole box for $98 because it is cheaper than usually keeping a few items.

    IMG_20170816_163144423

This was an additional item which my son loves sports so he was excited to see a ball. Now, he is only 2 so he does not need a key chain but we can put it on his travel backpack.

IMG_20170816_163727911

Here are the pants:

Left Pair: Andy + Evan Boys Twill Pant $33

Middle Pair: Penguin Boys Twill Jogger Pants $27

Right Pair: 7 for  All Mankind Boys Knit Denim Pants $44

We really didn’t need another pair of khaki colored pants so they are my least favorite.  My son has never had a blue that color of the Andy + Evan so that is different. The jeans are so soft so they are perfect.

IMG_20170816_163752752

From Left to Rights:

1st: Lucky Boys Striped Shirt $18

2nd: Frenchie Mini Couture Boys Polo Shirt $18

3rd: Losan Boys Short Sleeve Polo Tee $32

4th: Penguin Boys Pocket Front Tee $14

The box also comes with a little flyer to read. They have a clear pouch with the return shipping label, crayons and stickers which are my sons favorite part. The box also is white coloring page looking so my son loves coloring the box.

Chicken Salad Sandwich

Since I have been a vegetarian since I was 8, I never really paid attention to meat dishes. As I got older and started dating a meat eater, I have.  So chicken salad sandwiches are new to me.  Not sure if it a South thing or if my family just never ate them. Anyone know?

Chicken Salad Sandwich

Ease: 5/5. While you poach the chicken, you can cut everything up and make the dressing.

Husbands rating: 5/5, no suggestions.

Changes: My husband didn’t eat it as a sandwich since he is watching his carb intake. I also left out the dill and lettuce. Also the red vinegar because I thought I had some but I didn’t.

Recipe: You can find it here.

July Updates

July is my favorite month and always flies by. It has my favorite holiday in it, my anniversary and my birthday. So here is the just an update on my month:

Running:

I had no races this month but had some fun runs.  This is our last month before marathon training begins so I did fun runs with friends.  One friend got married in July so the day of his wedding we did a wedding run, another friend did a cupcake run for her birthday (you start/end at a cupcake store) and for my birthday we met at a different location than normal and we ran my favorite route.

Other Workouts:

I still went to crossfit regularly and reached some new personal records with weights.  So that is always good. I still did yoga once a week and every Friday I went to Body Pump. Plus, my son and I walked our dog almost everyday.

Social Life:

My social life normally evolves around my son but I went out a couple of times in July with adults. I had a dinner with friends one night, a wedding where we got a babysitter, and then took my son to a wine tasting party where there were other kids and a golf party where there were other kids.

Fourth of July:

Fourth of July has always been my favorite holiday. To me, it is not stressful and all about celebrating with friends. This year one of my mom friends had a pool party at her house. So there were tons of toddlers and we just swam all afternoon.  Once it got dark, we put on a firework show. We didn’t stay for all of it because it was getting late and my husband had to work the next day.

Anniversary/Birthday:

We didn’t really do anything special just because we have a toddler. We went out to dinner for our Anniversary and my husband bought me a new jewelry box that my son had broken about a month before. For my birthday, we had two play-dates and one was a dinner play-date. Luckily, one of the moms bought me cupcakes to the dinner play-date so that made it kind of special. My house did look like a florist shop for a while because our anniversary and my birthday are only 6 days a part.

Toddler Life:

My son was home all July with me. Every morning we had a different activity planned out. For example, we did two different Storytimes. I also took him to see his first movie which was $1 showing of Madagascar. I was worried we would only last like 20 minutes but didn’t care because it was only $1 but he watched the entire movie. I had so much fun with him.

So July flew by and August has already been really busy.

Chicken Bacon Ranch Burritos

Right when I saw the name of the recipe, I knew it would be a winner. My husband loves all the things in the title.

Chicken Bacon Ranch Burrito

Husbands rating: 5/5 even though I made the mistake of not cooking the chicken all the way. Don’t worry, he microwaved it enough at work to cook it and it was a tiny bit, like I took it off the grill maybe 30 seconds to early. He also wishes I added jalapenos.

Ease: 5/5. Just cook bacon, cook chicken and you are done.

Changes: So my husband decided to eat it like a bowl and not a burrito so he didn’t use any tortillas or any topping except ranch.

Recipe: You can find it here

Picture: None, he forgot.

August 2017 Stitch Fix Review

My Stitch Fix came early again so I was not expecting Trunk Club and Stitch Fix to overlap (but then again Trunk Club took forever, oh and I am still waiting to hear back on my husbands trunk). For this fix, I kept the same stylists I have been working with for a while.  I also mentioned that I will be going back to work shortly and going to Maine for a wedding.  I wish I would have also mentioned family photos but I can find something for that later.

Just an editor’s note: please excuse my dresser drawer not being closed. It is a Friday night when I took these and I was getting ready for bed and just didn’t really care at that point.

Here is how Stitch Fix works for the new people:

1. Fill out your Style Profile. This gives detail on your style, sizes, budget and anything else like a link to your pinterest board.

2. Once you have “ordered” your box, they will send you 5 items from a personal stylists.  It is a $20 styling fee which is applied as a credit toward anything you keep.

3. Try everything on. They send you Style Cards with recommendations on how to wear your outfit.  You have three days to decide what you do and do not want.

4. Buy what you like and return the rest. If you keep all 5 items, you get 25% off your entire purchase.  Don’t like something, they send you a pre-paid mailing bag to drop in the mailbox.  It is free shipping.

Here is what I got:

IMG_20170807_063105740

Style Card

41Hawthorn Kenziah Shirt Dress ($48)

IMG_20170804_215918481

I really like this dress.  It does seem a little short but I don’t mind showing off my legs.  I think this is what I am going to wear to the wedding.  I was unsure at first because it seems to casual but it is an outside wedding, so I did what any girl would do and send pics to my friends and mom and they agreed that I could wear it to a casual outside wedding. So this is a keeper. Sidenote: I send all my pics to two friends first to see what they think, I don’t always trust my husband.

Kaileigh Robinson Scoop Neck Top ($34) and Renee C Maybell Lace Detail Skirt ($54)

IMG_20170804_215800894_BURST000_COVER_TOP

I hated this top right when I saw it and I hated it on. It is definitely going back. The skirt is cute but I was the only one who really thought that. They will both be going back.

Fun2Fun Sayers Pleated Front Blouse ($38) and the same skirt

IMG_20170804_215658162

Hated this top.  First, it is too short.  Second, my bra hangs out.  So not really appropriate for a teacher.

Urban Expressions Clara Zip Top Tote ($48)

IMG_20170804_215554826

Cute purse and a nice size and color.  Might be a little too big for me. I am sending it back though.  So, I do not buy many purses but when I do, I like to splurge. Like my last purse I bought myself was Kate Spade. I only buy a purse maybe once and year and take care of it better than I take care of myself.

So I am only keeping 1 item but I still felt like it was a success.  I would buy the skirt too but I also bought a car unplanned last week so let me save my bank account some.

Bread Pudding

I love to bake but my problem is that I will end up eating it all.  My husband is not huge into sweets and I am.  My son would love sweets all the time but I limit his for obvious reasons.  Last Friday we were out to eat and my husband glanced at the dessert menu and mentioned that he had not had bread pudding in a long time.  I told him I would make it since it couldn’t be too hard, right?  It isn’t as I found out.

I tried to get my son to help me because he enjoys helping out in the kitchen but this I made all by myself. My son helped in his own way, like when I was cracking the eggs, he climbed on the kitchen table and dumped my ice water out. Or when I was stirring, he was on his little ride/push bike and kept riding into the kitchen and into me.  So really big help there. I really thought he would like tearing up the bread because he does that for the fish and turtles at a pond we visit.

Bread Pudding

Husbands rating: 4.5/5. He said it was nice and soft.

Ease: 4.5/5. It really was easy. I just had trouble completely blending the eggs.  Yes, I stirred by hand so maybe with a mixer it would be better but the yellow in the picture is some of the egg.

Changes: Kept everything the same but did not add raisins as we were out and they are my sons food anyway.

Recipe: You can find it here.

July 2017 Trunk Club Review

Last year, I had heard that Trunk Club worked with the Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale so I wanted to get a trunk during the sale. However, they decided this year for that not to be the case unless you went into a showroom. I decided to get a trunk anyway because I like two a year.  I had an awesome stylist but she left the company sometime in June. So I had a new stylist. I will admit this was frustrating because it took over a week of me saying “Yes, I want a trunk” for anything to happen. Then when I got the preview of like 10 items, I said no to over half. I ended up getting my trunk with only 7 items, the 5 I approved and then only 2 new pieces.  I was hoping for about 12 items to choose from as we have a wedding to go to, family photos and it is back to school time. So I was disappointed from the start. The sad part, I requested a trunk for my husband too and his new stylist(we use to have the same) has not gotten back to me in close to 2 weeks.

Anyway….

Here is how it works:

  1. Fill out a survey that asks for your sizes, measurements, likes and dislikes, what does your closet need.
  2. I sent my stylist a couple of photos of me so she could see my body shape.
  3. Your stylists will send you a preview where you can tell them what not to send and why not.
  4. They send the box. They send between 7-15 items.  I have 10 in mine.  It comes looking like a trunk and has all the things you need to send it back free of charge.  You can even have it picked up from your house.
  5. Try on and give feedback. Send back what you don’t want. You do not get charged until they get it back.
  6. There is a $25 try-on fee but it comes out of your total.

Here is what I got:

BP. Lula Block Heel Slingback Sandal $59.99

IMG_20170731_202908096

The color is a light blush color and this shoe is suede.  It is really pretty and fit well.  It was also pretty comfortable. I am undecided though because to me it looks a little too Cher Horowitz  (which I love her but it is also not 1995 anymore).

Eliza J Jersey Printed Dress $128

IMG_20170731_204141029

I wanted this dress to work so bad.  I love the bottom little skirt part.  I just think it is a sweet print which would be perfect for a wedding.  However, this dress is so tight and shows everything. I look pregnant in this photo and I am not.

BP. LS Side slit Tee $19

IMG_20170731_204406677

Don’t mind my PJ shorts. I hatred this shirt when I saw it (Long-sleeve white shirt…boring) but it is really soft. Then I hated it on because it seemed big.  I read the reviews and it is supposed to be so that you could wear it with leggings. Now I might keep it because I do like oversized and it is comfortable.  Plus, if I do not get anything then I am wasting my $25 so this shirt would be free to keep anyway.

BP. Twist Front Tee $22

IMG_20170731_204443359

I do not like this shirt.  I feel that the twist knot thing looks weird in the front where it is at.

Items I received but have no pictures because they didn’t fit at all:

Vince Camuto Texture Base Straight Leg Crop $89

The stylists sent me the wrong size.  I could not button them up.

Adrianna Papell Scalloped Crepe Sheath Dress $98

It was hot pink which I like but looked straight out of 1983 and not in a good way. Plus it was too small in the boobs so I couldn’t zip it up.

Vince Camuto Ruffle Fit & Flare Dress $148

Besides the high cost, it again would not zip up past my boobs.  This dress is so cute though. It is a nice coral color and would have loved to see it fit. Some people might say just ask for a bigger size but since it fit perfectly everywhere else, like my waist, then it will be too big.

So there is my trunk.  Yes, I am disappointed. Will I do it again? Maybe next year with a different stylists.
